What You Need Before Creating a PayPal Account in Nigeria
What you should not do is try to outsmart PayPal with fake details. That’s how accounts get limited.
Step 1: Download and Set Up the Paga App
If you don’t already have Paga:
- Go to the Play Store or App Store
- Download the Paga app
- Sign up or log in
- Complete your Paga verification
If you already have the app, update it to the latest version (we have made some improvements to the overall app).
Step 2: Connect PayPal to the Paga App

Once logged into Paga:
- Go to your dashboard
- Click the NGN account in the top-right corner (Yes, you can have multiple accounts on your Paga app)
- Select PayPal to create/connect to an existing account
You’ll be prompted to either:
- Log in to an existing Nigerian PayPal account, or
- Create a new PayPal account

If you’re signing up, choose Nigeria as your country and use an active phone number for verification purposes.
Once all of that is done, you have successfully linked/created a PayPal account in the app.

Important: What NOT to Do When Signing Up for PayPal
This part matters more than anything else.
Do NOT:
- Use a VPN
- Use a foreign IP address
- Select US, UK or any other foreign country
- Use fake names or addresses
- Use borrowed or recycled identities
Instead:
- Select Nigeria as your country
- Use your real name
- Make sure all details match your Paga account
Most restrictions happen because of a mismatch of country or identity details. Keep it clean and accurate.
Step 3: Complete PayPal KYC Verification
After signing up, PayPal will send a verification email. Follow the instructions to confirm your email and verify your identity using an ID.
This step is very important because it allows you to receive funds into your PayPal account and withdraw them into your Paga Naira account.
After signing up, PayPal will send a verification email. Follow the instructions to confirm your email and verify your identity with an official ID.
Step 4: Start Using Your PayPal Account

Once connected to Paga, you can now:
- Receive PayPal payments from abroad
- Hold funds in USD
- Withdraw PayPal funds into naira
- Transfer money to Nigerian bank accounts
- Spend your funds locally
This setup works for freelancers, online sellers, remote workers, and business owners.
Note: PayPal may temporarily hold withdrawals for new or unusual activity. This is normal and part of their fraud monitoring.
How Nigerians can withdraw Naira from PayPal
PayPal does not support direct naira withdrawals on its own. That is why you have to connect your account with Paga to legally bridge the gap.
PayPal did not suddenly become new. Access did. Paga’s mission has always been about financial access for millions of Nigerians, and this partnership is exactly that in action.
Now, you can finally have a PayPal account that allows you to receive and withdraw.

Can I still use the same paypal to make payment or send payment after linking it to my paga account?
Yes
